
Gus Hernandez Sr. is entering his third year as the head coach for the Tennessee Temple University Crusaders. Coach Hernandez has coached in South Florida for fifteen years. Prior to relocating to Chattanooga, he was the Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach at Westwood Christian School in Miami, Florida. Coach Hernandez lives in Ringgold, Georgia with his wife Ileana of twenty-eight years, and has two children, Agustin Jr. (26), and Anaely (22). He is an alumnus of Miami Senior High School and Miami Dade Community College. Coach Hernandez is very excited about the direction and commitment the university has taken to improve the baseball program and is looking forward to coaching the Crusaders at Historic Engel Stadium.
Coach Hernandez's life verses are Proverbs 3:5,6 which state, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (NKJV) Coach Hernandez Sr. looks forward to coaching and transforming his athletes into good baseball players and also godly young men. Coach Hernandez enjoys the hitting aspect of the game, and is looking forward to handling a lot of the hitting instruction on his team. Gus Hernandez Sr. is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
