Gus Hernandez - Head Coach

Gus Hernandez Sr. is entering his third year as the head coach for the Tennessee Temple University Crusaders.  Coach Hernandez has coached in South Florida for fifteen years.  Prior to relocating to Chattanooga, he was the Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach at Westwood Christian School in Miami, Florida.  Coach Hernandez lives in Ringgold, Georgia with his wife Ileana of twenty-eight years, and has two children, Agustin Jr. (26), and Anaely (22).  He is an alumnus of Miami Senior High School and Miami Dade Community College.  Coach Hernandez is very excited about the direction and commitment the university has taken to improve the baseball program and is looking forward to coaching the Crusaders at Historic Engel Stadium. 

Coach Hernandez's life verses are Proverbs 3:5,6 which state, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (NKJV)  Coach Hernandez Sr. looks forward to coaching and transforming his athletes into good baseball players and also godly young men.  Coach Hernandez enjoys the hitting aspect of the game, and is looking forward to handling a lot of the hitting instruction on his team.  Gus Hernandez Sr. is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. 


Kevin Drew Whitley - Assistant Coach

An alumnus of Shorter College in Rome Ga. Drew graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Prior to that Drew prepped at Rockmart High school, where he was a three year starter in outfield and also played football and wrestled four years. Drew played collegiate baseball at ABAC for one year as starting left fielder and then started in left field at Gadsden State, AL.  As a Junior and Senior Drew started at William Penn University. His best season the team lost only one conference game and finished fifth in the nation with a 34-4 record. Drew is still tied for the single season triples record at William Penn University.

 

Drew has helped scout the Chattanooga area for numerous colleges and has scouted north Georgia for the Washington Nationals. In addition he is an assistant with the summer select Chattanooga Cherokees.

 

Drew has also worked as an assistant at Baylor School responsible for the freshman squad. Drew Also coached high school rugby and assisted the UTC rugby club in the past. Drew has an interest in all phases of the game and recruiting. He is looking forward to assisting with the mental preparation aspect of the game as well.

 

Drew is married to Meghan, who is an Occupational Therapist with Siskin rehab hospital in Chattanooga and they have three dogs. Drew is also enrolled in the Masters of Christian Education Program at TTU.

 

One of Drew's favorite verses is Hebrews 12:2 which states Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
