The Tennessee Temple Lady Crusaders hosted Talladega College
on Monday 25th January at the McGilvray Gymnasium. In their previous
meeting back in November the Lady Crusaders upset Talladega
by just 2 points on the road, so the Crusaders knew that Talladega would be ready for the challenge.
A flat start by the Lady Crusaders gave Talladega the opportunity to get out to an
early lead. Early foul trouble and injuries for the Crusaders meant that Talladega gained some easy buckets in the paint, and at the
half Temple was
trailing 32-41. In the second half, the Lady Crusaders made the necessary defensive
adjustments, and started to close the gap. With just 3 minutes on the clock the
Lady Crusaders managed to get the game to within 7 points. Unfortunately, time
ran out and they could not get over that hurdle. With some excellent
foul-shooting by Talladega
at the end of the game, the final result was 82-66.
The Lady Crusaders were led by Shontale Wells who finished
with a season high of 18 points and 8 rebounds. Kanetra Gonzalez had another
strong performance with 16 points, while James ended with 14 points and 9
rebounds.
The Lady Crusaders were due to head to Hiwassee
College on Tuesday 26th
January, however this game is postponed, therefore the next game will be on
Wednesday 3rd February against Martin Methodist
College on the road.
